A Historic Icon

Named after the majestic Mount Rundle, Rundle Bar seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary flair. Once the hotel’s entrance, it has evolved into a beloved spot, undergoing renovations in July 2020 to enhance its ambiance while preserving its historical essence.  

Rundle Bar was designed to resemble a welcoming living room with bespoke furniture and intimate lighting. The six-month renovation by Calgary-based FRANK Architecture was completed to exceptional, award-winning standard. The interior design incorporated prestige and grandeur, whilst honouring its nostalgic old-world charm. The attention to detail and impressive bar was recognized by Canadian Interiors with the award “Best of Canada” in hospitality in 2021. Adding to its allure, the bar’s patio has also been awarded the Best Patio in Canada in 2024 by Canada’s 100 Best for al fresco dining and drinks on the terrace. 

The interior of the bar holds decades of history including the fossil-filled Tyndall limestone staircase, which has been recognized as a global heritage stone resource. This unique stone is exclusively sourced from Canada, with Manitoba being the only location where it is quarried.   

Although the bar in itself is a spectacle, the view from any of the windows is not to be missed. Soak in the views of a few of Banff iconic peaks, including Cascade, Tunnel and Mount Rundle.

For many of the bottles in the Bar’s collection, Rundle Bar is the only bar in Canada (and even North America) offering these rare Scotches by the ounce, bringing centuries of history from Scotland to the Castle in the Rockies.
